West Cancer Center & Research Institute, the Midsouth’s leader in adult cancer care, has expanded radiation oncology services with the acquisition of Cancer Care Center’s Dyersburg and Jackson locations, and Paris location in partnership with Henry County Medical Center.
West is known for providing outstanding cancer care with novel therapies, access to clinical trials and advanced treatment options. One such technology is the linear accelerator, which provides high energy electrons to conform to a tumor’s shape and destroy cancer cells while sparing surrounding healthy tissue. The state of Tennessee Health Services and Development Agency unanimously approved West Cancer Center’s request for new linear accelerators to serve Jackson and Dyersburg patients.
“Having West leading efforts in oncology care with the addition of state-of-the-art linear accelerators from Elekta, is a huge benefit for patients in West Tennessee,” said Dr. Paul Koerner, Radiation Oncologist for West. “Because many treatment plans require several weeks of consecutive treatments, having these services close to home is a blessing for patients and their families.”
West Cancer Center now has 5 of the top linear accelerators, which provide precise delivery of electrons to the tumor site, but with a high rate dose mode that reduces treatment time 40%. Dr. Arun Rao, a Medical Oncologist for West at the Paris location further expressed the positives for his patients who will now be able to get the best care, with the same compassionate staff without the need to travel to big metro areas. “We are like family at our clinics and care deeply for everyone who enters our doors. Knowing patients at Paris, Jackson and Dyersburg will now have “West” care where they live is a win for these communities,” stated Dr. Rao.
