Meet Alexia: Stage IV Colon Cancer Survivor
After being first in her family to receive a cancer diagnosis, Alexia felt scared and even with a loving and supportive community, she felt lonely.
In this video, Alexia talks about the moment during her first infusion treatment when a West employee stopped to share their personal testimony with colon cancer. This moment changed Alexia’s outlook on her diagnosis and proved that there is hope in a bright, cancer-free future.
Alexia also shares her experience with Dr. Axel Grothey, one of our incredible GI oncologists. She says, “I came to West on a whim. I could have gone to Jackson. I could have gone to Nashville, but I feel like it was meant for me to choose West. I don’t think it was by chance that I just landed in Dr. Grothey’s care. He’s so open and honest. He really cares for his patients. I believe I was placed in his care for a reason.”
She also says, “It’s so nice to check in for an appointment and hear ‘I used to be a patient here too. It’s encouraging.’”
Our West family is proud to fight alongside our patients against cancer. At West Cancer Center, we truly believe that together – WE CAN.
