Denise Johnson has played the role of a support system and caregiver for a number of years to her family members diagnosed with cancer. Denise’s mother battled cancer of various types throughout her life, along with her sister who was recently diagnosed with breast cancer in 2017.

Denise has seen firsthand the impact a cancer diagnosis can have on someone and their surrounding loved ones. “I have watched my mom and the advancements of cancer treatments since I was 14 years old. So much has been done. People’s lives are so much better now. Families have the opportunity to create even more memories together and spend more time together solely because of the research and dedication from doctors and nurses, like the ones at West Cancer Center.”

West Cancer Center has been by Denise’s side as support giver for years. Through her experiences with this awful disease, Denise advises anyone going through a similar journey to remain open-minded about their diagnosis and treatment options, and to always be transparent and forthcoming with their care team. “What helped my mother most was her positive attitude and willing spirit to accept new, innovative treatments. Technology and research improve every day, and West is always up to speed on these things for their patients.”
